INhibitiON — Overgrowth
The Concept
Stillness ~ inhibition. Movement ~ discovery.
an explorable 3D environment in which nature is gradually reclaiming the remains of civilization. Visitors begin on a solitary sidewalk square and venture along paths that transition from concrete into wilderness~ into the woods for discovery.
The environment responds to their behavior. When visitors stop moving, vegetation begins to grow around them, gradually obscuring the paths and engulfing their surroundings. When they move, vegetation parts, revealing new routes and encouraging further exploration.
This is a static pitch to convey the concept~ the intended experience features continuous camera movement, changing perspectives, environmental depth, and dynamic vegetation growth. Visitors would explore an interconnected world rather than navigate through conventional webpages.
Different routes lead to the site’s destinations: the Store for comics and merchandise; Project Purgatory for our flagship comic series; the Journal for essays and publishing updates; About for the company and its mission; a Mailing List for news and announcements; a Blogroll highlighting other creators and interesting websites; Conventions for upcoming appearances and events; and Credits recognizing our collaborators, a game.
About this prototype
This simplified demonstration uses seven static images to illustrate two locations and three stages of vegetation growth. It communicates the visual direction and central interaction concept without implementing the intended 3D environment, animated camera, or procedural vegetation.
The smaller circle further down the trail leads to an early 3D and camera development test. It is very rudimentary and does not represent the final vibe or look at all.
